Algemene informatie

The Fascial Manipulation® (FM) program consists of four levels of intensive hands-on courses. It combines theoretical lectures, demonstrations and practice between participants throughout each course day.

Participants will learn to evaluate musculoskeletal dysfunctions with specific reference to the human fascial system, and to apply the Fascial Manipulation method as taught by Luigi Stecco, PT. Lectures include the anatomy and physiology of the fascial system, an explanation of the biomechanical model used in application of this technique and the anatomical localization of key fascial points. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions (from history taking, to a hypothesis, to a verification and treatment) together with a methodology and strategy for treatment.

This course concerns Level 1 (Hybrid), divided into part 1A and 1B, and consists of an on-line and an on-site part:

  • Fascial Manipulation 1A: 3 days on-line course (over 13 hours of online content). Participants are required to complete the online lessons prior to attending part 1B;
  • Fascial Manipulation 1B: a 3-days’ course in Amsterdam (for 24 hours total).

Level 1 (Hybrid) discusses the problems related to dysfunction of the locomotor system, by associating the densification of the Coordination Centers to conditions such as tendinitis, low back pain, lumbar disease, cervicalgia, carpal tunnel, headache, and so on. It studies analytically, every Myofascial Unit in the continuity of Myofascial Sequences.  The main objective is to develop an understanding of the Coordination Centers (CCs), responsible for the normal function of the monoarticular muscles and synergistic biarticular muscles.

Learning Objectives Level I:

At the conclusion of the course, the participant should be able to:

• List the types of human fascia and understand the role of fascia in nociceptive pain. (Knowledge)

• Differentiate between ascending and descending type of disorders and assess the proper body segments. (Analysis)

• Develop effective treatment for myofascial pain syndrome and musculoskeletal disorders. (Synthesis)

• Evaluate the quality of the deep fascia through palpatory verification and treat appropriate the points (Centers of Coordination) restoring the tissue gliding. (Evaluation)

Participants will receive the book ‘Fascial Manipulation, practical part, first level’:

Dr. Antonio Stecco

Between 2001-2007, Antonio Stecco obtained his Degree for Physician and Surgeon at the University of Padua. His thesis concerned “Analytical comparison of the fasciae of trunk and limbs”. He completed the Fellowship musculoskeletal ultrasonography (2010-2011) at the UMDNJ/Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation – USA.

Between 2008-2012, he undertook a Postgraduate specialization in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, at the University of Padua, and developed his thesis “Chronic neck pain: comparison between the traditional rehabilitation treatment and Fascial Manipulation”.

He obtained in 2011-2012 the National Diploma in Ultrasound Clinics, issued by the Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

Further, he is Assistant President of the International Association of Physiatrist (ISPRM) and Assistant Professor at Rusk Rehabilitation at the Faculty at New York University.

He is self-employed: carries out the activities related to the medical office; personally makes cadaver dissections for research; committed to anatomy of human bundles research.

Antonio Stecco teaches theory and practice of the Fascial Manipulation method both in Italy and abroad. In this respect, he is:

  • Author of various presentations at International Conferences held in all the continents.
  • Author of more than 20 in extenso papers about the fascial anatomy and physiology.
  • Coauthor of the book entitled “Fascial Manipulation”, published by Piccin in 2010, translated in English.
  • Coauthor of some chapters of fascial anatomy in the book entitled ” Fascia in Manual Therapy” (Elsevier, 2010) and in other publications.

Antonio is also founding member and current president of the Fascial Manipulation Association.
